It was after dark in Melbourne, and the lights were being switched off at home. I was walking through the kitchen when I noticed that someone had left a miniature figure of Po, the Kung Fu Panda, on the island bench. 1,518 views on 9 November 2013.
There was only one light on, about ten metres away – so the shadow was not the sharpest but it was still sufficiently interesting for me to get my camera out.
Po by himself was not a great shot, but when I moved back slightly and included the sharper image of the handle of a coffee mug, things got far more interesting!
Shot without a tripod. I do not crop, enhance or edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 0.5 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.
Featured in STATUES AND SUCH, June 2009.

awesome work david
Thank you, Scott. I’m glad you liked it. My son was standing beside me and he thought it was a “different” sort of image!
haha!! Good one, David!
Thank you, Maureen. I guess a sense of humour is not a bad thing sometimes!
good eye!!!
Thank you, Izzybeth. I’m so glad you liked this offbeat image!
LOL… love this!! My daughter sings this song all the time!
Thank you so much, Jen – isn’t it funny how some old songs never go out of fashion. I’m sure Carl Douglas would approve of your daughter’s taste in music!
LOL!!! Wonderful creativity mate:))
Really appreciate that, Ralph. I wasn’t sure what the reaction would be to this image, quite frankly. But I shot it as a spontaneous piece of fun because it was someyhing very different – and the feedback has been great!
Funny!! Hey we all have to have our coffee!!
Thank you, Kat. I’m actually a tea drinker, probably because I went to school in Darjeeling, but yes, I know what you mean! (And I do like the aroma of coffee!)
This is so funny! I wish I could sit and have a coffee with you. I think you must be fun!
Thank you very much, Nancy. Drop in any time. It would be a pleasure to have you visit. We do have a lot of fun in our family and a sense of humour is really important to all of us. I’ve got coffee brewing for you ….
LOL!!!! Great clarity!
Thank you, Helene. The clarity isn’t too bad, considering I didn’t use a tripod – actually, I have NEVER used a tripod for any of my shots. Glad you liked this one!
Oh yes it is off beat, and the choice of composition makes it so much more interesting.
Thanks very much, Izzybeth. The first two shots were close-ups of the panda’s silhouette, then I realised this was a far more amusing composition!
Lovely shadow shot!
Thank you, Indrani – and congratulations on your first sale.
