Artist's Description

The Surfin’ Dead is one of the most obscure and seminal bands of the latest ’80s. In that period grunge-rock was at its infancy but the alternative scene was fresh and exciting. A lot of bands were inspired by punk, ’60s garage, detroit punk, metal, funk, acid-rock and psychedelia and each band was able to blend different ingredients together, creating a very unique sound.

The Surfin’ Dead’s members were part of this new scene. I was very impressed by their energy and their instrumental technique. Their music was hard, psychedelic and very sixties oriented. After years of new wave and dark it was a regenerating bath of sound to hear such a kind of music.

I went to this gig, which was held inside an old big top, in the autumn of 1989. Despite the public was very scarce, The Surfin’ Dead played wih such intensity that I was stunned!
