Artist's Description

Pink trillium pusillum. The trillium pusillum, also known as the Dwarf wakerobin, is characterized by wavy, white petals that turn pink with age, long narrow sepals and curved yellow stamen. The flower blooms upright but often nods downward from the weight of the blossom. It is a perennial which likes swampy woods and deciduous forests, and which is native to the mid-southeastern USA from Virginia down through Georgia and west to northeast Texas. It is considered threatened or endangered in most of this region.

Photographed at Smithgall Woods state park in White County, Georgia: Olympus E-3; Sigma 105mm macro, f/6.3 @ 1/25, ISO 400

FEATURED in Wildflowers of North America , June 2012
