Artist's Description

I found this miniature flower growing on the side of the road during an early morning walk in Hermosillo, Son Mexico.

Each tiny flower is only 2mm in diameter and is comprised of 5 cleft, powder coated petals, 3 – 4 stamen with bright yellow anthers and a pure white pistil. The flowers grow in clusters at the end of a single stem which rises from 30 to 60cm from a leafy base. They seem to thrive in sandy desert soil and bright sunlight. The flowers close at night.

I’ve yet to identify this plant as a wildflower, so it may be classified as a weed.
