Artist's Description

I used to think balance was the key. Balance, just the right amount of this and that and the other to create a whole that’s satisfying, comfortable and fulfilling. Then, I decided that balance was overrated. Where’s the fun in that? It’s contrast that spurs creation, so let’s stir it up to greater levels of intensity; lower lows and higher highs, and lots of diving and climbing and struggling in between. Well, that’s good too, but it’s exhausting and not as fruitful as one might expect. I finally drifted back into balance. Only now I knew. The truth, at least for now, (You know, the then now) is that balance is more than equilibrium. What I was looking for before and found, ironically while bouncing around in extreme adventure, was wholeness in balance with a lopsided focus on the becoming. Yes, contrast is key; we can’t know light without darkness, (I’m not convinced, since light obviously had to come first; but there it is – the darkness – and we’re immersed in it most of the time) yet the key to the key, so to speak, is leaning into the light. See what I mean? It’s balance with a lopsided focus causing us to drift into the light. There’s the magic.
