Artist's Description

Conforming to the rules has always been my biggest problem. As a child hand-writing was my worst subject. For me it was like always being told exactly how I had to draw something.

The square grid portion of “Stained Glass Window” shows the writing line freed from all but two of writing’s conventions. One, is to move in a direction (in my case, left to right). The other is to toe the unseen horizontal line. I can accept those constraints as we all must accept the constraints of timelines in this world and the inevitabiity of traveling to and from a pair of doorways we call life and death.

Here the line becomes for me the signature of the vibration of life and life’s emotions, twisted by the influence of others, fighting for a day in the sun, learning the way of calm, the mastery of the surf of life and the swell of love and anger. Brownian motion, cosmic ray decay, elemental particles, the paths of chaos, entropy, and rejuvenation, it all finds release in the line.
