Artist's Description

Location: Mt. Monadnock, a low 3165 foot but bare granite-topped single peak in southern New Hampshire, USA.

A day before I was to climb it with my daughter, and old friend wrote an e-mail and in it noted that the first anniversary of her husband Arthur Scruton’s death was coming up soon and every day she thought of him. Arthur was the owner of a dariy farm and died in a tragic farm accident where a piece of ancient heavy metal equipment he was trying to free suddenly let loose and pinned him crushingly to the ground. He died within 24 hours. Art was a saint among men, hard working, honest, always with a positive and friendly attitude.

As I climbed the mountain the next day I thought often of this quiet man. The mountain’’s lower slopes were covered with many fallen trees, victims of a massive ice storm from the previous December that cut power to over half a million people in New England. Thus was born, “Nature’s Way” and several other images. I dedicate them all to Art Scruton and his memory. For those that read this, Art’s memory has now grown to dot the globe.

All the best to you, Art, from all of us who knew and still remember you.
