Artist's Description

RFID (Radio Frequency Identity Chips) has been used in domestic animals for well over a decade as a means of allowing veterinarians to identifying lost pets.
The technology is now being touted by corporations and governments as a way of keeping track of employees and citizens. What were once loose card readers are now the size of a grain of rice and can be embedded into people’s skin to act as door keys, passport readers, credit cards, medical records and GPS locators. A person and their activities can be tracked and recorded and a profile developed of that persons movements, interests and behaviour. However benign and convenient this technology may seem, in the end it is about establishing control, ending free choice and eliminating privacy.
Fear is often the motivating factor that drives the acceptance of this technology, such as the use of RFIDs in passports to combat terrorism and illegal immigration, or applying them to children in the hope that parents can monitor them and keep them safe from sexual predators.
Governments and corporations justify the use of this technology by claiming it is for our own protection and if we have nothing to be guilty of than we have nothing to fear. Such spurious comments represent the thin edge of the wedge, for once control is established over our whereabouts, control is easilly established over our thoughts. Fight the government and corporate invasion of our personal freedom. Stop the introduction of RFID technology.
