It's a Canon ... my gear

Good evening all.

I’ve had a few people ask what equipment / lighting etc I use so thought I’d journal it.

   Canon EOS 30D

   EF-S 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 USM
   EF-S 60mm 1:2.8 USM Macro
   EF 28-135mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS USM
   EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM

Extension Tubes

   Speedlite 430EX
   Speedlite 580EX II
   Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2
   Omni-bounce diffuser (for 430EX)
Lambency diffusers (for both 430EX and 580EX)

Most of my macro photos were taken using the 430EX fitted with the Onmi-bounce diffuser. I’ve only recently purchased the 580ex and ST-E2 for some family newborn portrait photography (lots to learn) … I plan to make a bracket to hold both the 430 and 580 creating a mobile macro portrait setup. I noticed a wedding photographer using Lambency diffusers, they’re physically larger so should produce a softer light.

To get even closer than 1:1 with my 60mm Macro lens I use extension tubes.
They’re great.. basically they move the focal plane resulting in greater magnification. Only downside is you loose focus distance… for example, your lens on it’s own will focus to infinity… put an extension tube on you get greater magnification but your focus range might be a 30cm window… Also.. if you have Canon gear, get the CANON tubes, they may be more expensive but they’ll have the right electrical connections etc.. and .. I remember reading something not working with the cheaper versions. I dream of owning the MP-E 65mm one day.

Thanks for reading, if you have any questions or tips b-mail me :)
