Monica.

Dedicated to Monica, a lady with multiple sclerosis, who I used to visit as part of my job as a voluntary care worker. She laughed a lot, and I used to do her washing.

I remember your laughter.

your eyes
great hills of suffering.
your voice
racing

because of the illness
that
was killing you.

it burrowed
through
your brain
and into your body.

relentless.

like some
underground train

it was unstoppable.

yes
you had no choice
about surrendering
to that
Dark Hunter.

yet
the spark that was in you
only went out
when he
took over your body

then
it
gave up,
not you.

now you are free

I remember your laughter.

Monica.
