Mental Illness

Damn, Luci scowled as the mp3 died.
The mp3, as pathetic as it may sound, had become her main escape, drowning out anything… everything unwanted. It had become a haven of sorts.

Luci looked around, Can’t see anyone.., a small bubble of hope rose to the surface, maybe they had gone out?
Unplugging the mp3 from the headphones, she set it up to charge.
A small frown marred Luci’s face as she considered her next move.

No deal!
The Tv was on, her hope was gone.
Luci kept her headphones on and slipped the end into a pocket, unwilling to part with the whole escape.
Noone would know the difference.

Bracing herself, Luci made her way into the lounge room to see who was home,
invasion, Luci took a small step back as she noticed everyone was seated around the room.
The need to scream became apparent, but she suppressed these unreasonable feelings and gave them a smile.
Not surprised at the blank stares she recieved, Luci backed her way into the kitchen.
A small sigh escaped her, Luci knew for sure, they wouldn’t remember seeing her.

Luci could see the Tv from the kitchen, an ad was on.
Anxiety, Paranoia… she pinned it for a drug ad.
More of the ad was shown, and she wasn’t so sure.
Luci was proven wrong when it mentioned mental illness.

Looking at her family, sitting there…almost worshipping this Tv, annoyed her in a way she couldn’t describe, but as Luci began to turn away from them, she heard a laugh, it was her brother, Charlie.
Luci looked at the screen, as he heard him say “We should call it for Luci”.
There was a number for mental illness sufferes on the screen, everyone laughed.
