You See The Thing About Happiness Is

You see the thing
The thing about happiness
You see the thing about happiness is

A lonely night around a camp fire
Snowflakes chased by a cold wind
A horse trailing through the country high

Or where a bird flies a winter sky looking for prey
As a man casts to the surf as taught by father to son
And the wild of the past becomes the wild of the future

Where a cellar of whiskey and wine overflows
The food of the field is set upon a table fair
And from warmth of baker’s hearth aromas dream

Watching our bodies naked on a cold night cling
As stars and moon their light beams strike
And there within the eyes of man and woman to shine

To hear crashing waves of tempestuous seas
Watching lava flows of an unhappy earth and
To see children of the poor still laugh and smile

To know a hand held of man and woman
Of man and man and woman and woman
Is no matter or mind to any and no bane to bear

To remember the footprints in the sand
Walked side by side on a summers shore
Remain in the mind after waves remove

As watching the blossom of a spring renew
We feel the warmth of a pre summer glow
And feel the heart beat deep within

Where we hear the words of poets fair and furious
And see the building of worlds through author’s eyes
We maintain the peace within, no rage

You see the thing
The thing about happiness
You see the thing about happiness is

It always ends up
Being something different
To everyone
