I Am

He’d spread his love all around this town
Watched the sun come up as the moon went down
Felt hollow, empty, not feeling complete
Walked drunk through town on calloused feet
Too scared to discover what was in his soul
He’d hidden his life in lies and rock ‘n’ roll

Cold cobble stones with fallen leaves
Tears running down upon crumpled sleeves
Another night, what was the point
Another whiskey or was it a joint
Self-destruction it’s time for leaving
This city, this life, just so deceiving

First jumping a train to get away
Then drifting the roads living day by day
He stopped the drinking the whoring too
But in the back of his mind he always knew
It would have to come out there was no other way
If he didn’t do it now it would stay hidden away

He caught the Greyhound bus back into town
Made it to the bar as the sun went down
How fitting he thought, the timing right
For they’ll all know at the end of this night
He called for silence with just the word please
Asked them to sit down as he went on bended knee

I’ve called you here friends, family and all
Cause I have a tale to tell, a tale so tall
I’ve hidden this for years from mum and dad
And all the friends since school I’ve had
But I can’t go on I have to tell you this day
In these five lonely words, what more can I say

I am a Collingwood supporter
