The Cat

I had a cat
It was so fat
It couldn’t even
Catch a rat

I gave it away
To farmer Shea
To chase his mice
All through the hay

He returned the cat
It was still fat
It had been frightened
By a bat

It’s now alone
Sits by the phone
Waits to be fed
When I come home

I go through the door
The cats still a bore
It looks with surprise
At what I put on the floor

A new lady cat
Who can, catch rats
Will teach him now
To not hold back

It’s some time after
My cats now a father
With a litter of kittens
And the new cats’ mother

My newly slim cat
Can now catch rats
Which he shares with his mate
And a litter of brats
