Artist's Description

Helmcken Falls on the Myrtle River in Wells Gray Provincial Park, British Columbia.

The falls is one of the most majestic in Canada, if not the world and at 475 feet is 3 times the height of Niagara. Some think that the pool at the base of the falls is nearly as deep as the height of them. The canyon is volcanic basalt columns and the gorge curiously resembles a brandy snifter in shape. This shot was taken at full flood in early spring. Some of the remaining ice cone left over from winter is visible through the mist which swirls around the cataract. Upstream from the falls are three more cataracts…The Mushbowl, Dawson Falls and Majerus Falls.
