Artist's Description

This shot was taken on a rocky island in the calm waters of Coffin Bay on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. Hiring a kayak from the locals, we paddled out to the spot, which was covered with roosting birds. Among the cormorants and silver gulls was a pair of Sooty Oystercatchers. These birds favour rocky coastlines and their striking colour contrast makes them one of the easier species to positively identify. The shot was taken while producing the documentary film Cuttlefish Country
