Artist's Description

This male Common Brown Butterfly was unphased as I poked my macro lens through the grass at him on a suburban South Australian street verge. It is unusual to see these butterflies in the ’burbs, due to the absence of native grasses they rely on to lay and grow as caterpillars. More native vegetation = more butterflies, but knowing the host plants of the caterpillars (their required foods during early life) is critical to supporting native species. There are several books and online resources available with this information.
