Artist's Description

This year, Flinders Ports intends to dredge 1.5 million cubic metres of sediment from the Port Adelaide River’s shipping channel in a bid to accommodate larger commercial vessels. Dredging impacts the marine environment as it disturbs the seabed, mobilises legacy contamination into the food web and smothers aquatic plants and life on the seafloor. No environmental impact statement has been produced, and the company currently intends to use the same process it used in 2005. The last major dredging event in the Port River lead to extensive seagrass loss and created a silt plume reaching out to sea. Will the results of 2005 be repeated in 2018? Will citizens “Judge Dredge” or will the estuary and gulf be “spoiled rotten” as this fantasy comic book cover suggests?
