Desert's Bloom?

The piercing black commands attention
forever black it mourns
her wasted presence
on foul surroundings
surroundings she endures
surroundings she’ll endure

it falls tall
it falls straight
her uninterrupted flow
breathing significance
from my eyes to my heart

at a distance you glance you wince
discovering color in a world of grey
unused to color
your eyes, reborn
your eyes see hope

you question your senses
“a beautiful bloom?
in the harshest of deserts?
but a single bloom?”
you question its existence
a mirage of salvation?
a mirage of desperation

instill a silence in your heart
keep it from skipping that beat
she could be like all the others
a bloom without essence
a bloom but only a shell

approach with caution
approach to examine
remembering why you placed yourself in this desert
why your sight, your eyes
why they lost color

your heart steps aside
as the cynic takes charge
but what does he find
beneath that shell
what does he find
inside that bloom
a character of strength
a creature of thought

strength that climbs forever
when doors close before her
to meet its closer
to beckon his closing

a person of feeling
waving a bleeding heart
unafraid to express
unafraid to care

you understand now
the bloom of a desert
a single bloom of such importance
that commands rain
commands impossible
to instill survival
her survival

the cynic is gone
and your heart returns
could you be in that presence?
that thing you crave
that thing you lost
could you have found essence?

a few steps back
your heart cautions its self…
