Artist's Description

This is Katie. Katie refuses to let her big boned status keep her from enjoying things that most cats enjoy like curling up in a good wicker basket.
Her other favorite things are rugs, and "rug hugs”.

Rescue Story
Katie is one of 6 precious fur-babies, along with their mother Sophia that I brought home with me when I worked at the vet. On the very first day of my job at the vets office I was advised by our vet, known to everyone as “Doc”; that over the weekend someone had thrown a yellow and white cat out into the parking lot of the clinic. All that he could find of her at first was a little pink collar that was lying in the parking lot. Later that weekend during rounds, Doc had seen her around the clinic but had been unable to coax her to come to him. He suggested that if anyone would attract her it would be me, and I should try to bring her in because from the glimpse he got of her she appeared pregnant.

Around lunch time Doc’s wife came in and told me that I had a cat under my car. I thought that she was only teasing me as she knew that where I go, needy cats typically follow. After a short chuckle or two I asked, “Are you kidding?” “No!” she replied, “There is a cat under your car!” Out the door I went to find a yellow and white; very pregnant female cat under my car. It only took a few minutes on my hands and knees talking softly to her before she came right into my arms and allowed me to cuddle her as I carried her inside the vet’s office. I proudly and happily held her before Doc and asked, “Is this the cat you were looking for?” Much to his chagrin it was. We checked her over and put her in a kennel and amazingly within only a couple of hours she went into labor. Before we went home that night she had given birth to 6 precious kittens; five girls and one tiny, solid yellow male. Katie was one of these precious girls. One would think that their struggle for life would have ended when their mother was safely out of harms way. But Sophia would suddenly become very sick a week after giving birth and we were forced to take the kittens away from her.
With lots of great care from our vet, and all of the staff everyone survived. After attempts to find homes for them through the clinic failed, they all came home with me. I felt like fate has brought us together anyway, and after having helped raise them I couldn’t have imagined they were ever destined to be any place else.
