Dealing With Sprites (Spirit Walks Part 4. Flash Fiction)

‘Are you a good witch, or a bad witch,’ the winged sprites jeered, pressing in around Sama, a mortal returned with the Wild Hunt. They strutted like a gang of street thugs, confident in their numbers, and tittering at their own wit.
‘You little scamps,’ Sama said confidently. ‘You’ll find I’m no Dorothy. Luckily I brought a gift for the likes of you,’ and she flicked a small object their way.

The large eyes of the sprites opened even wider. The small disk of toxic iron tumbled through the air, glinting and twinkling under the light, and the sprites ducked, dived and jumped to clear its path.

The disk landed with a ding, and rolled around in a tight circle for a moment, before falling flat.

‘I was gunna bring a nail gun, just for kicks, but thought you might not get the joke,’ she said, and grinned wickedly.
