The brilliant red male cardinal perched on snowy branches. This collage is made entirely of paper cut from magazines. No paint was used and each little piece of paper is hand applied onto canvas with gel medium. The male cardinal is always a fantastic sight to behold, especially in the winter. His vibrant red plumage stands out beautifully on crisp white snow. No matter how many times I’ve seen them fluttering about in the snow, when I spot one I always have to stop and take notice. They’re very eye-catching birds whose natural beauty is inspiring to photographers and artists alike. They are also the state bird of Ohio, my home state. I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a place where these birds are commonly found but never taken for granted.
