fingerless pianist

I expected
to fall in love with your hands
to be amazed, seduced
by their texture, temperature
to trace your veins in a trance
and lick your fingertips
until you melted to the floor
I expected not to care about the rest
just long, smooth fingers,
maybe even
cut them off at the wrist
make you a fingerless pianist

but then you put those hands
and fingers
to my skin
and I had to bite my tongue
not to yell, to ask, to beg
please, press so hard a prophet
could read your future from my body

I never expected to find
with hands like yours
that I’ve fallen,
instead,
for what you do with them.
