Artist's Description

It was chucking it down with rain when we visited Miyajima, or Itsukushima as it should be known. Out of pure luck we came across Daisho-in temple complex winding its way up the mountain and popped in to have a look. One of the shrines was in a cave and its icons were eerily lit only by candles, incense sticks, and these beautiful lamps. Japan is full of lamps and lanterns, it was one of the recurring themes of my trip.
