NOW WRECKED BY EARTHQUAKE……
I took this in the undercover tram terminus at Cathedral Junction when I was last in Christchurch NZ.
This terminus is located about one block in the street behind the cathedral.
So we decided to go back the next day and have breakfast there in one of the small restaurants.
June 2013…. I have just received this information from fellow member “Mortimer”, which I thought I would share with you all in case you were wondering the same thing as I was….?
I asked a NZ friend of mine over here in Melbourne to ask back home for details of the tram after the quake. Here is the response from the people that run the tram service:
The Christchurch Tram used to go through Cathedral Junction, between
Gloucester Street and Worcester Boulevard, however has been closed since the earthquake.
The Tramway is hoping to reopen in Late September 2013, which we are very excited about. However this is not a confirmed date as the Red Zone is
changing all the time.
There was one section of the Tram Route where it was indoors, at Cathedral Junction." I think only a couple of glass panes broke during the earthquake and that was it!!! I think pretty amazing considering all the glass that there is :-) So, it’s not running at present, but the Tramway will be going through again.
