A Day With My Dad

I held my dad’s hand as we walked in the dark
I saw the lights of the famous ballpark.

We entered the gate with our ticket in hand
And found our seat, HIGH up in the stand.

I looked around—there were crowds everywhere
The vendors were yelling “Popcorn! And Beer!”

The mascot ran out to stir up the crowd.
He tossed out T-shirts and yelled really loud.

The players came running out on the grass
The fans cheered wildly as each player passed.

They were throwing and catching and pitching too.
I was so excited I didn’t know what to do!

The first player batted, I heard the bat crack
The ball flew in the air and to the glove smack!

The inning continued and we cheered with each play
We smelled hotdogs and chips and bought some that day.

I wanted to catch a fly ball in the air
I held up my mitt but one breezed by my hair.

Our team was winning by a score three to one
My dad and I were having such fun.

It was 7th inning stretch, we wanted to eat
We bought cotton candy, it tasted so sweet.

We returned to our seat for the final few plays
Our team was still winning; it was the best of my days.

My favorite player came up to the plate
Swish! Went the bat—he swung too late.

I squeezed my dad’s hand, I wanted to see
A ball fly through the air and come straight to me.

Crack! Went the bat, the ball flew away
I didn’t catch it, but our team won that day.

We loved the game—what a great time we had.
There’s nothing so great as being out with MY DAD!
