I stayed in a Mayan village doing volunter work in the garden of an ecovillage. There wasn’t much else to do – no restaurant, no shops. The people were very friendly, the children would often come and help us work. There was no zocalo or town square as there often is in Mexico (in the colonial towns anyway), all they had was a big concrete basketball court. Kids would play soccer on it in the afternoons well into the evening. Here is a little boy chasing after the ball, seen through the doorway of an abandoned traditional Mayan hut.
