The Rose Bush

What a beauty it was! Such a delicate pink and a climber, everything we were looking for in a rose bush. We planted it next to our fence in a spot visible from our bedroom window. Oh how beautiful if will be in the moonlight!

The rosebush grew many feet and fastened itself to the fence, a couple of nearby trees and then it bloomed.. What beautiful pink roses, huge roses, and in the moonlight pink glowing roses. They were all long stemmed and grew out at the top of the fence. The thing that is odd is they only bloomed one time.

As the summer past the vines grew and the thorns reached ¾ to 1 inch in length. Cutting the canes was getting to be quite the job so we started using the tree lopper. The loppers provided the length to help protect from the thorns but every time you turned the thorns make an entrance. Oh those thorns were leaving us a bloody mess daily and so we decided to give it away to a friend who wanted it for a natural fence. Away went the bush being drug on the asphalt. Rick, our friend, was a bloody mess by the time he got it in the ground. We did prune it before this all happened but the canes were 1” in diameter and we were through with those nasty thorns

Weeks past and the suckers were growing out of the ground everywhere.
For six years we fought that rose bush and then we sold the house.
