The Game

The boy stood there, alone, the teams had been chosen. He was the odd man in. He would have made a great player except he could not catch the ball, he could not hit the ball and he was very slow at running the bases. Still he wanted to play their game and play is what he did. The boy had heart. He dropped the ball so many times in left field that the crowd delighted… he melted into his world of want to. His time at bat…he walked to the plate as the crowd roared with laughter. His heart sank but he wanted to play their game. The boy had heart. Strike three and finally it was over but it had just begun for the boy. His world of want to did not meet their world of “he can not.” The boy had heart. Their game had cost him. Still, he did play. His victory was in their “he can not”…. He never believed that because he played in their game. The boy had heart.
