Artist's Description

Another in the series of photographs of statues depicting Native Americans found in an office complex garden in St. Petersburg, FL. I really wanted to erase the building in the background to make it look like the piper was playing his music in a pristine, natural setting. But progress marches on, and development continues to encroach on habitat, so I treated the "un"natural end of the picture with an unnatural coloration. I think this treatment is actually thought provoking, as if the Native American was frozen in time, playing his flute, while “civilization” inexorably encroaches into his territory. Here, the buildings seem like a mirage, but which is ultimately more real? The buildings will eventually fall, but the spirit of this piper is eternal.

Taken with Kodak 10.2mp digital SLR camera, processed in photoshop.
