Artist's Description

Another picture brought out of retirement for another shot at fame and glory. This is the elevator tower fronting the inverted triangle building at the end of the “Million Dollar” Municipal Pier at downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, jutting out into Tampa Bay.
I like the unusual angle of this shot, the crisp lines and primary colors … the blue of the sky almost a perfect match for the blue color painted on the building.

Constructed originally in 1914, the Pier has been a popular gathering spot for several decades. Fifty years ago, when I was in high school, kids would cruise down around the pier in their jalopies. The old building of hispanic style architecture of that time was replaced thirty years ago with this innovative building which, as I recall, the local old timers considered a modern monstrosity. However, it has not only survived but is as popular as ever, now housing a number of excellent restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions.
