Artist's Description

A few kilometres to the south of Mustafapasa (“Sinasos”) close a village called “Cemilkoy”, you will see a sign for Keslik Monastery, a place worth a visit. You can see there a small but well preserved monastic complex, whose original name was "Archangel Monastery "

There you can see two churches, the Archangel church of the 12th century and the Saint Stephan (“Αγιος Στέφανος”=“Aghios Stefanos”) church of the 7th or 9th century, both of them carved inside of caves. You can see impressive frescoes from 2 different eras of Byzantine art.

You can also see the cells of the monks, their winnery, their baptistery, the library, etc . This photo was taken from inside the library and the rock that you see through the “door” is the backside of Archangel church. Doesn’t it look like a mask?
