CP Originals, Encaustic Art

I have always loved art, and am always busy making and creating. I particularly enjoy mixing media to form unusual effects. Horses, fairytales and magical images were favourite subjects from an early age.

When I was a teenager I first discovered this little known art form of Encaustic Art at a craft fair. The vibrant colours, glossy finish and unusual textures created by the wax had me hooked, so I purchased a demonstration picture and a starter set then and there. Upon arriving home I immediately commandeered my mum’s travel iron and there has been no stopping me since!

‘Encaustic Art’ is the name used for painting with heated tools and coloured beeswax. The wax blocks are melted directly onto the iron plate and then spread on to the painting card. Different techniques are used to create texture and pattern to build the pictures.

I love the fluidity of the wax and the diverse images that can be created by this form of artwork. Having always loved the countryside this inspired me to produce beautiful landscapes of both reality and fantasy. I love experimenting and always try to bring something, new, fresh and unusual to my work.

I am a resident artist Hylands Stables Visitors Centre, Hylands Park, Chelmsford UK. I have a range of greeting cards, mounted and framed pictures on display for sale in my studio and can be seen demonstrating my art on most Sundays & Mondays when the studios are open to the public.

But no, I had to dig trenches, fetch water to fill them, play football, go crabbing and jump though waves. Collecting stones and shells on the beach, taking time to turn them over and look at the colours. Crabbing by the ro…
