We had a great time!!!

We recently took a vacation to the mountains of North Carolina. I am one of those people who always picks up brochures and the local paper looking for new places to go/see/shot.
On this last trip I picked up a local shopping guide paper, while looking through it I found a community bullentin board posting upcoming events. I saw an ad for the Lake Toxaway Community Center. They were having a "Friday night Jam’. Basically the ad said supper would be at 6;00 pm. The menu would be meatloaf, cream pototaes, corn, biscuits, cost of plates $5.00. The jam started at 7;00.If you had and played an instrument come and join in! No alcohol,no spitting on the floor use a cup please! and no smoking in the building. This is a fun family evening, come and enjoy.

Well Lal & I thought it sounded like fun so we went. We eat before we went and I wish we had eat there from the smell of the food. It smelled yummy!!! So a little before 7;00 the musicans started taking the stage and tuning up. At 7;00 they had announcements, all the local goings on,and welcomed everyone. This is a small mountain town where it seems everyone knows everyone because we were welcomed as the ‘first timers’ at this point.

Well there was about 15 musicans up on stage ,a fiddle player, bango, drums, bass, quite a few with guitars, a steel guitar, even a guy that played the spoons!!. These were all ‘local folks’ nobody widely famous but the music was awesome!! They have a dance floor in front of the stage and you are welcome to jump out there and dance.During the jam if a slow song was played folks would get up and 2-step/slow dance. During the more fast paced songs there were about 8 ladies and 1 young girl that would get up and clog. If your old enough to remember the show “Hee Haw” that is the best way I can describe this event. Just simple mountain folks having a good time.

We heard old favorite songs and some original tunes. If your a fan of bluegrass or gospel music and you ever find yourself in the area take a few minutes and stop by the Lake Toxaway Community Center on Hwy 281 you will not reget it. I have never felt so welcomed. The people are warm & friendly and make you fell like your at home.

The Friday night jams run from mid March to mid December and there is no admission charge. It starts at 7;00 but there is no set time for it to end.The only thing you need to bring with you is a chair pad, lol. The chairs are metal garden type chairs. Very strudy and very hard, lol.
