Transcendence

Pain boring into my back
nearest the spine
adjacent to shoulder blade
echoes in the breastbone
opening a wormhole of agony
as ancient virus of chicken pox slides its fingers
of searing fire along nerves firing tiring messages of hurt
to a brain’s receptors already weary
of the intermittent drain on remaining consciousness.

Shoulders want to bend backward to touch each other
as though arching might somehow ease
the torrent of nausea and tears of anguish in solitude.
Waves of aching move through bones already drummed
into fatigue by arthritic twinges and soul retching hurt
fluttering eyelids wanting to close to find relief
etched on the inner surface with streams of capillaries silhouetted against the light of day.

The mind wanting to inspire feelings of pity and solace for suffering
pauses in some moments
to allow a very distant vision of gifts from the pain.
These offerings softly whisper how strong we are
and how impressive our endurance
when our brain is screaming, screaming for an end.

Still deeper and more profoundly we hear
the tiniest reminder that we are greater than the physical.
In this minscule molecule of hope we feel an expansion
into the realm of the Universe
where we smile in wonder
at the Star Nursery in the Orion Nebula
as new beings of light reflect our true nature.

Within us all light is born constantly.
connecting us to all of Creation
Most of all to one another.

We are the Ones we have been searching for.
