injustice

the victim’s eyes are empty and sad
he doesn’t understand
how things got quite so bad
he was beaten with fury,
yet he was found guilty
but by no jury
his fate was decided years ago
but what was his sin
but to be in the wrong place
at the wrong time
with the wrong people
the hard, steel bars of the door
swung open, the executioner awaiting
there was confusion in those soulful eyes,
as he followed closely behind
how is this fair
I want to swear
and scream and cry
I want to defy
the executioner’s hand
for this helpless soul
who did no wrong
but will be put to death
and with his last breath
his last piteous plea
lost on the ears of society
he will howl like the wind fom the
unfair treatment he receives
unwanted from birth, not his fault
and then some hideous assault
until he was found alone
with no one and with no home
one swift sharp
injection of the needle
piercing skin
a merciful death
perhaps more merciful than
the people he’d known in life
sleep well, darling dog
rest in peace
rest in peace
rest in peace
