Artist's Description

A worker-cast bumble bee, (Bombus sp; family Apidae) is gathering nectar from a yellow cone flower( Ratibida pinnata) in a the formal gardens by city hall in Milton, Ontario. Bumble bees do sting, but are not very aggressive toward humans unless threatened. They nest underground, and are important pollinators. They have a female society, like honey bees. Also like honey bees, they are experiencing colony collapse syndrome.
