Artist's Description

School kids in District Six. District Six was once a virbrant, multicultural community in Cape Town, but under apartheid it was declared a whites-only area and all coloured or black-owned properties were razed. Slowly, slowly, the post-apartheid government is redeveloping the area, which stood mostly as a wasteland for the last sixty-plus years, and offering the original families new homes. However, it’s been a few generations since they lived here, so most families choose to stay in the townships that have been home to them for generations now.
