HE THREW ME OUT,
KEPT MY KEYS, MY ID
I ANGERED HIM SOMEHOW
THINK IT WAS THE PHONE CALL
HE SAID IT WAS A MAN
BUT IT WAS A FEMALE FRIEND.
DIDN’T MATTER
HE WAS ANGRY
ANGRY AT THE WORLD
AND, AS USUAL
CHOSE TO STRIKE ME INSTEAD.

I LEFT ON FOOT, NO WHERE TO GO
NO WAY TO GET THERE
EXCEPT BY THE SHOES ON MY FEET.
WE LIVED IN THE COUNTRY
FAR FROM ANYONE I KNEW.
AND FAMILY WAS A WORLD AWAY.
NO WAY TO CALL ANYHOW
HE KEPT MY MONEY TOO.
MY FEET KEPT FOLLOWING THE ROAD
DIDN’T KNOW TO WHERE
JUST KNEW I COULDN’T GO BACK.
IF I DID, WOULD I SURVIVE THAT?

PRESSURE WAS THE KEY
THAT OPENED THE DOOR TO HIS ANGER.
NO WAY OUT, NOWHERE TO GO
NO FRIENDS, NO FAMILY
NO DIME TO CALL.

TWICE HE HELD A GUN TO ME
TWICE I SURVIVED
TOO MANY TIMES
HIS FIST FOUND MY FLESH.

EVENTUALLY I ESCAPED
THIS INSANITY. . .
THIS NO WIN SITUATION.
I AM A SURVIVOR. . .DESPITE HIM. . .
I’M STRONGER NOW BECAUSE OF HIM. . .

I CONTINUE TO LIVE AND BREATHE.

Artist's Description

A very bad time in my life a long time ago. The law wasn’t on my side then, we didn’t have womens shelters. Literally “I” did not have anywhere to go. These were the days before cell phones, etc.

I hope that this can be a message to anyone out there in a similar situation, male or female. Even though it may seem hopeless there is a way out. Especially these days. Make a MENTAL plan and then see it thru. Have faith and hope. . .you WILL survive too!
