Artist's Description

Garter(Gardner) snakes are a very adaptable group of snakes, found in backyards and multiple grass habitats around the United States. This one is an “Oregon Red-spotted Garter Snake” – Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus, It is said to be one of the most beautifully-colored of the Garter snake subspecies. This one is hunting for tree frog on a hardhack rose spirea flower bush. I took this shot of it while on a morning walk in the Fern Ridge Wildlife Areas Fish Butte Unit in Lane County, Oregon.
