Artist's Description

My mother & I. Our military passport photo as a War Bride 1953. The authentic porcelain doll I made her for her death bed. She was 81. My mother played shamisen. The mayor of Ikeda sent his condolences, thankyou.
Works on paper, rice paper, graphite. 125mx50m.(extract).

Official B&W passport photos in the early ’50’s were 2″×2″. This is a generation later after Andy Warhol & the pilgrimage to the photostat machine…multiples of!!

With brain tumors, there is a comfort in childlike states & memories. The doll I sculpted especially was healing & pleasurable for her.
