Taken from the deck of a river boat, just as the sun was going down over the Murray River at Echuca in Victoria, Australia. After years of drought and then a major flood, it is so good to see the Murray as high as it is and flowing rapidly again. The Murray River divides the states of Victoria and NSW. In 1890, at the peak of the town’s development the Port of Echuca turned over 240 paddlesteamers, and even today, Echuca is home to Australia’s largest river boat fleet of paddlesteamers, although primarily now used for tourism rather than trade.
