EMOTIONALLY RESCUED

Alone in a hut
Desert and darkness all around
He came from the horizon
On a camel
Southward bound

I reached up to help him
As he came tumbling down
Black suited and weary
Upon his forehead
He wore a frown

“Water please”
Were his only words
As we headed for the door
Where the darkness of the inner room
Spilled forth across this Lord

“Water please”
He asked once more
Slowing sliding down the wall
He hung his head wearily
As I headed out the door

With cup in hand
I offered the water gently forth
His hand outstretched
Slowly trembling
For the cup and all its worth

He drank the crystal liquid
And released through his lips a soothing sound
His voice slowly regaining
Rejoicing
To have lost its thorny crown

Then to his lips
There came a smile
Which flooded the room with light
The darkness had subsided
It was no longer night

I found myself in wonder
Of this stranger passing by this day
And I felt emotionally rescued
Now the darkness had turned to light
With which to see my way

By a stranger southward bound
And wondered if in years to follow
I would become his wife
For now I felt emotionally rescued
From my lonely life
