Artist's Description

Not only is the Stuart Highway the life blood of Darwin. During WWII it provided the allies and Australian forces with many strategic airfields.
Strauss airfield was built 28 miles South of Darwin & was 5000ft long x 100ft wide with taxi ways.It lays alongside the Stuart Highway a mere 2-3 metres.
Today Strauss has been dedicated to its name sake Strauss Field in memory of Captain Allison W. Strauss.
The USAAF P-40 Kittyhawk pictured is a replica of the plane he flew.

The Noonamah pub is 2 K up the road and has really cold beer!!
