A Few Ways

Strutting in Spanish heels
stabbing stone floors
with Latin bravado
and all the fretted frenzy
of flamenco

Dressed in a urbane lounge suit
afternoons of dry martinis
and dry Algonquin wit
reveling in all the pointed prose

A shrug of French indifference
the Gauloises rain
and Chopin piano
as if visceral passions
were a matter of fact.

In the fall and flush
of tropic rain,
steaming streaming
verdant fertility
with all the damp dark soil
in our toes

Or huddled in Russian furs
a flurry of limbs
flailing like flakes
among the starlight still snows
of a Moscow midnight.

In an Austrian ballroom of glitter
All crystal and soft satin
And later, some candle lit boudoir
with lace
and the untying of threads,

Perhaps some sea soaked skiff
languishing
in the doldrum deafening silence
the sun like
a bullet hole
in the paper thin sky,

or in the shade of a wagon
loaded high with hay
will we sup at cider
and finger at buttons,
all kisses and bare feet.

And in every dream
Vague and vivid both
You in the crook of arm
Sleepy soft breathing
In every quarter of my luscious world
