Immortality, by Jose M Heredia

When in the shining and serene ether
The planets burn by the gloomy night,
The chest of happy melancholy
And confused fright it feels filled.

Alas! That is how they go around in the heart
I sleep without moving in the cold tomb!…
Among pride and weakness
With useless anxiety sighting sad.

But, what am I saying? –Irrevocable luck
The planets are also destined to die,
And will see by their age its blurry light.

More superior to time and death
My soul, will see of the world its ruin,
To the future eternity is allied
