Yaddles in Deadly Dodgem Cars

I am so glad that this poem is circulating amongst the youth of today!!!
We may actually save some of them!

I cannot believe the amount of stupidity that is accepted mingling with driving – bad instruction, inexperience, drinking, smoking, eating, drugs, mucking about with mates, stereos, mobile phone talk & texting, and the biggest thing of all – automatic driving.

Yes I agree that making driving simpler should make it safer but we are talking about a machine that needs to be carefully controlled and respected and making that easier to do first up will not give it the respect it requires!

Like in all things you must pay dues before you receive the luxuries it rewards. In jobs it is doing the coffee run and the filing and the typing pool and the table caddying before you can do the responsible work

I think automatic license testing should be outlawed!
If you cant drive a manual car you should NOT be allowed to drive at all!
[red turning arrows are the same – if you cannot turn without aid of a green arrow then you should not be driving!]
How can you respect the machine you are steering if you do not understand how it performs?
Automatic transmission cars are just BIG & DEADLY Dodgem Cars!

Certainly once you have your full license and proved you can drive with no traffic offenses for 5 years then you could drive an auto – cos then you understand the death machine you are controlling and show you have a responsible attitude towards it.

I believe that speed also creates issues. Our practicing drivers should travel at a speed limit that is 10kph less than the allowed road speed limit [40 in a 50 zone, 90 in a 100 zone etc] giving them longer to react to a situation. And the penalty of being caught breaking this is loss of license & a 3 month suspension and 3 more licensed instructor lessons before resitting the test.

We have to be serious about our youth driving so that they understand the seriousness of driving and are serious about driving!

I believe too that having radios/stereos [fixed is ok – so as not to distract] passengers [ok I like how we do the passenger requirements of today] & turned on mobile phones should be banned from P-Plate cars,
[in Vic the regulations for passengers are – on red P plates only one teenager (Yaddle) aged between 16 & 21 with the driver – adults & under 15yo children are limitless [well seats allowed lol]

[and did you know it is not illegal to have too many people in the vehicle just so long as every seat-belt is used! – that rule is being changed as we speak after a spate of youth crashes where there were more people than seat-belts and in one they pulled 8 from the back seat of a coupe!]

Back to the poem & youth driving – yes I agree in that a person needs to be able to multitask when driving and not be distracted by the unfamiliar [it falls into the “House-proofing the child not child-proofing the house” philosophy I adhere to] but there is a period of needing to understand and be fully in control of the death machine you are controlling before you add the distractions.

Again I am glad this poem is circulating the youth of today and like all great classics – anonymous is the brilliant author!

When Miss Bjboo uploaded this poem into the EEG to tell us about her movie of the poem’s story to emphasise the message it contains … it prompted me to say/write this out into the world.

Feel free to discuss these issues with me!
