Artist's Description

“Shiver” in nautical-speak means to be shattered, as in the old sailor expression, “Shiver me timbers!” This equals, “I’ll be damned!”
Hence, shivered: broken to pieces; exploded to a thousand shards. However, the best definition of shivered is contained in a single glance at this image. Hardly any part is connected to its corresponding part, but scattered around the shore. Did it shiver and then end up on the shore? Or was it driven intact onto the beach and broken up by the surf? Either way this ship is like Humpty-Dumpty: you can’t be put it back together again. I found the subtle colors and stark, jagged outline of this object very beautiful. Its textures are also varied and interesting.
