Painter, printmaker, poet; Chiarina Loggia’s art is a lyrical dance of words and imagery on an uncharted voyage of discovery.

“The artist in me never sleeps. She peers through my eyes at the shifting forms and flowing colors of my world. She listens to my heart and hears the echoes of my desires. She swims inside my stomach and churns up waves of emotion. She wanders around my mind unlocking treasure chests of ideas. She takes me in hand and weaves her magic with brush and brayer. She is my muse and inspiration.”

Born in Italy, yet raised in Canada, Chiarina has lived in many countries around the world. Now settled in Victoria, Canada, she works primarily as a printmaker and photographer. Her artwork is collected widely around the globe.

“My art is primarily about communication. One of the great joys of making art is making connections with other people through it, often by finding meaning in the work that is both unintended and yet surprisingly insightful. When creating art my ultimate goal is to produce works that I hope will resonate deeply with the viewer and elicit an emotional response which will encourage reflection and open dialogue and understanding between people.

My inspiration comes from the relationships and experiences in my life. Meditations on love, loss, passion and compassion abound in my work. Places I have lived, especially Japan, have left their indelible mark and developed my aesthetic sensibilities.

I am continually attempting to push boundaries in my art, delving into subjects and ideas that take me out of my comfort zone. Self portraits are the most personal, challenging and intimidating artworks I feel I can do. Through these and other figurative studies I strive to express something universal in the personal.”
