Inspiration behind the art:
I recently saw a brilliant British movie called ‘Pride’. It outlined the courageous men and women of the LGSM (Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners Group) and their amazing work to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984.
This painting is dedicated to all men and women brave enough to speak their truth and help others to do the same.
When you look at the painting, who are you seeing? Is that a man or woman on your left? Is that lady a lesbian or a heterosexual or perhaps even a drag queen? Is that man on the right a miner or is he gay or perhaps both? The biggest question is ‘does it matter’? I hope the answer to that is ‘NO’ and that’s what I want to put across with this.
Where there are consenting adults there should be no condemnation. We all have the choice to live and love in our own way.
